How do I prioritize which at-risk accounts to save?

You cannot save everyone at once. Rank at-risk accounts by value, savability, and urgency.

Prioritize at-risk accounts by combining value, savability, and urgency into one ranking, so your CS team spends its limited hours on the accounts where intervention actually changes the outcome, not on the loudest or the most hopeless. Triage is a retention skill, not an admission of defeat.

Those risk scores come from your own internal signals, revenue, support, and product usage tracked over time, the source most tools ignore in favor of external public data alone. SignalRx scores accounts and their contacts, uses inference to decide which source to trust, and writes the ranking back to Salesforce as Revenue Plays and lists.

This guide is the triage and value-ranking lane of the retention system. For how accounts are flagged against the renewal date first, see How do I spot at-risk customers before renewal? For what happens once an account rises to the top, see How do I run a save play?

Why not just work every at-risk account?

A CS team has finite capacity, and at-risk accounts are not equal. A high-value account with a fixable problem and a near renewal deserves far more attention than a small account already halfway out the door. Working the list in the order it happens to arrive wastes the hours that matter most.

What three factors decide priority?

Value (revenue and strategic weight), savability (whether the risk is something you can actually address), and urgency (how close the renewal or decision is). Ranking on all three at once keeps effort flowing to the accounts where it pays off.

Illustrative example

Illustrative, based on how SignalRx customers work. A team scores its At Risk list across the three factors and works the top of the ranking first.

AccountValueSavabilityUrgencyPriority
Large group, usage dip, renews in 60 daysHighHighHighWork first
Mid group, billing friction, renews in 150 daysMediumHighMediumWork next
Small account, champion gone (caught on LinkedIn) after an acquisition (seen in news), already sourcing a replacementLowLowHighDeprioritize

How do I keep the list honest?

Recompute as health and renewal dates change, and be willing to deprioritize accounts that are not savable so effort flows to the ones that are. SignalRx keeps the Call Now list current from the live score, so the ranking reflects today, not last quarter. Value weighting travels across healthcare, a specialty group, a senior living operator, an FQHC, a behavioral health provider, a specialty pharmacy, a dental or aesthetics group, or an MSO or PE-backed platform, and where an account record is missing the size or ownership detail that sets its value, SignalRx fills the gap from public sources so the ranking stays accurate.

Key takeaways

  • At-risk accounts are not equal, so triage them.
  • Rank by value, savability, and urgency together.
  • Deprioritize the unsavable so effort goes where it works.
