How do I score and segment my healthcare market?

The pillar guide to building a Fit Score and segments your whole team trusts and acts on.

Score and segment your market by turning your ICP into a Fit Score every account carries, then grouping accounts by value and fit so each group gets the coverage, motion, and messaging it deserves. A score ranks who is worth pursuing, and a segment decides how you pursue them. Run together, they replace gut feel with a system your whole team reads the same way.

This guide is the overview of the whole score-and-segment system. For the basics of grouping customers, see how do I segment my customers.

What is the difference between a score and a segment?

A Fit Score is a single ranked measure of how well an account matches your ideal customer. A segment is a grouping, by value, specialty, ownership, or lifecycle, that changes how you sell rather than whether you sell. You need both, the score to prioritize and the segment to tailor.

How do a score and a segment work together?

The score sorts the whole market so reps know where to spend time, and the segment decides what that time looks like once an account is chosen. A High Fit account in a large multi-site segment earns a named owner and an expansion Revenue Play, while a High Fit account in a small-practice segment earns an efficient, mostly digital motion. Same score, different plan.

What does a complete scoring and segmentation system include?

Ten guides make up the full system, from building the score to routing leads with it:

How does SignalRx build the score and segments?

SignalRx pulls in the full range of external sources, public registries such as NPPES taxonomy and CCN-keyed CMS size and setting, company websites and news, LinkedIn, Google reviews, and, for consumer verticals, Instagram, and resolves them against what your CRM already holds. It resolves parent-child ownership so a physician group or MSO reads as one account rather than many scattered leads, and writes the fields onto every account and contact record in Salesforce, your system of record. Where a record arrives sparse, SignalRx fills the gaps by triangulating across those sources, registries for identity and structure, web, reviews, and social for consumer-fit signal, and ownership signals such as MSO or private-equity backing, so even thin records become scoreable. Those fields feed the Fit Score, and value crossed with fit drives the segment and its Tags. Fit is built from that full external mix triangulated against the internal record, while your own internal signals, your revenue, support, and product-usage data tracked over time, lead on health and expansion, and inference decides which source to trust when they disagree. Because scores, tags, and segments live natively on the account and contact, they become Revenue Plays and Salesforce lists your reps can act on, and everyone reads the same numbers as the data changes.

What does this look like on one account?

Illustrative, based on how SignalRx customers work. Cedar Valley Orthopedics is a physician-owned group, 9 locations in one metro, specialty orthopedics, running the platform you integrate with. SignalRx resolves the group, scores it High Fit at 84, and reads its revenue as mid-tier, so value crossed with fit lands it in a high-fit, growth segment with a health tier of Expand. That segment sets a named-owner coverage model, a high-touch motion, and a Revenue Play focused on adding locations, with Tags for ownership type, NPPES specialty, and CMS setting so lists and reports group it correctly.

Key takeaways

  • A score ranks who to pursue; a segment decides how.
  • Build the score from your ICP, set thresholds, and keep it current.
  • Validate before you trust it, and explain it so sales acts on it.
  • Write scores and segments into Salesforce so everyone works off one source.
